ㅤbiography.ㅤ verona, italy, is where we set our scene. the very place shakespeare wrote of for his tale of iconic romance. it is in this fair verona, in the blossoming spring of 1981, that lucia rossio gave birth to a set of twins. first-born, was a boy, who she and her husband, thomas hathersage, named giacomo. and shortly after, came his sister, alessandra.lucia and thomas raised their twins in a family home, settled in verona. the children lived happy lives, and were beloved by all. when they became old enough to travel, however, the family were forced to spend time not only at their home in italy, but also across the pond. the united states became their second home, much like it was their father’s, a canadian man with an eye for business. it is that eye that got thomas recruited by vought international.the butterfly effect soon takes its course of action, beating its indomitable wings. business for gio’s father presents the family with a new opportunity: compound v.after a long discussion, the parents decide to take it. agreeing only upon the condition that vought take only one of the twins. and so, they took giacomo. he was injected with the drug and sent back to his parents, followed closely by the company’s watchful eyes. eyes that would follow him, lingering like a shadow his entire childhood, as they awaited the manifestation of his powers, ready to pounce on it. to make a quick buck out of one of their own.it never comes. not to their knowledge, at least. gio goes about his life as usual, celebrating the birth of his younger sister francesca when he was ten, chasing hobbies with his family, baking with his mother, and skating with his twin. he almost could have led a normal life, perhaps followed in alessandra’s footsteps and made a career from her ice skating. almost.at the age of sixteen, gio finds his ability to rip holes in the fabric of space, manipulating them to his will and jumping through them. effectively, he could teleport. and no sooner does he make sense of this discovery, does vought come knocking at his door with deals aplenty. this is the moment they have been waiting for. they test him, or more accurately, his powers, before assigning him the moniker of ‘ the jumper ’ and forcing him out into the world.publicity is everything. at eighteen, they begin to call him the westernized version of his name, james, making him more and more american where they can. they style him. they model him. he is a heart-throb, stealing the hearts of young people across the country. he gets signed for comics, movie deals, anything that can get his face on a poster and onto bedroom walls. and eventually, the big guns come in.the seven. he is welcomed to the seven with a warm embrace and loving smiles for the cameras. a refreshing young man for the team! and boy, does america love him, and james, now often answering to jem, loves it too. especially when his eyes land on another of the seven’s newest members: inessa volkov, the conjuress. as a young man with a knack for camera work, he obviously doesn’t show it, but he practically falls in love instantly. eventually, though, it starts to catch on. there is a chemistry there, an alchemy brewing and boiling underneath the superhero antics of the team, and the public demand and they scream and they chant for more, more, MORE!so they get a show. the conjuress and the jumper, starring in a brand new vought directed sitcom! follow two supes in love as they bring balance to saving the world and figuring out their secret personal lives away from spying eyes. but don’t worry: it is just a script. nothing is real. until it is. until he loves her.until she dies, and he slowly crumbles.undiagnosed mental illness is his downfall. death is inessa’s. vought, desperate to get their it couple back on the screens of every house in the country, double dose the witch with v. they just don’t like what it is that wakes up, and coin her a villain, a horror story to make money from later. so instead, they force jem back out into public, even when he is certainly not ready. all it took was one unavoidable manic episode, live on television, resulting in the very public death of an innocent, and his career was over.forced to step down and vanish from the lime light, jem is given a therapist to help him overcome whatever burdens may have been weighing on his shoulders. but, just as the company wished, he disappeared. disgraced and denounced, before he was forgotten, and given the chance to live as just gio once more. he became a father, a loving and doting dad, to his brilliant children, ensuring they were loved and cherished in the same way he and his siblings were.it turned out, gio was happy. far happier being somewhat normal to living with the stress of his own supe status. he could have lived like that forever, had his daughter not come home from school one day to tell him he was trending. welcome to the redemption of jem hathersage, in what social media is calling the jumper renaissance. guess what, james? vought wants you back.
